“All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on
earth. Go ye therefore . . .” Matthew 28:18-19
On this huge earth there is at least one group of people
who, by their subjection to him, uphold the authority of God. Though the
nations rage defiantly against him, the Church is the one body proclaiming his
authority to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places. Not only is
she on the earth today to preach the gospel and grow up into Christ; she is
also here to manifest the sovereign rule of God.
The Church is the precise opposite of the nations. While
they take counsel together against God and against his Anointed, saying, “Let
us break their bonds asunder, and cast away their cords from us,” the Church
with joy declares that she is ready to put herself under his bonds in order to
learn obedience. To obey him is her life. Is it mine?
